England International Owen Maiden booked his place in to the final 16 of the Modus Junior UK Championship by winning the penultimate tour event in Bristol last Saturday.
Owen will be joining the four previous tour winners this year, which includes European Champion Jim Moston and World Youth Championship Qtr finalist John Brown, plus the remaining Tour 6 winner to be completed in December, the top 5 ranked JDC tour OOM and the top 5 ranked JDC academy OOM will make up the 16 competitors.
Maiden made his way to the final dropping only 2 legs of darts and cruising through the field. He dominated the final against young Essex star Adam Howard, who made the final after what certainly, was the match of the day in the semi final against Tyler Radlett.
Radlett hit 3 maximums, checked out a 135 on the Bull and wired a second 135 attempt, but eventually Howard ran out the winner.
It appeared this match may have taken its toll on young Howard as Maiden cruised to a 5-1 victory in the final.
The Final 16 event itself will be played at the Crowne Plaza Resort Essex on the weekend of December 3rd & 4th, the Junior Darts Corporations Super Saturday and Q school weekend double header.
The weekend includes Tour event 6, two PDPA qualifying scholarship events and the final 16 knockout itself. The actual final of the Modus tour will be played 14 days later at the Alexandra Palace London during the William Hill World Darts Championship.
Owen claimed £100 in prize money and will also join the JDC Allstars in 2017 by virtue of winning a Tour Event.
Steve Brown Chairman of the JDC commented “great performance by Owen. He is familiar to us on the JDC tour and I can see he has potential. Its going to be a high quality last 16 this year with so many players in form right now and so much to play for in Essex.”
