LUKE Littler made even more JDC and darting history as he beat Jack Nankervis to claim a third successive MVG Masters crown.
The 16-year-old, fresh from winning the PDC World Youth Championship on Sunday and the JDC’s Winmau Junior Darts Open yesterday, held off a spirited fight from 12-year-old Nankervis to win 6-3 in the final in Gibraltar.
Littler was tested in the final, going 2-0 down and having to step it up to ensure his incredible week – and year – continued with victory.
If Nankervis was nervous in the final, he didn’t show it, hitting 180 against the Littler throw on his second visit, and taking out 54 to break inside 14 darts and take a 1-0 lead.
He then held throw in a scrappy second leg to double his advantage, before Littler held to get on the scoreboard at 2-1. The Warrington star then broke back, before winning back-to-back 14-dart legs to move 4-2 up.
Nankervis – who deserves immense credit for producing arguably the best day of darts of his young career – broke back to get back within a leg of the defending champion.
But Littler again went out in 14 darts to move to within one leg – and clinched victory with a hold of throw to continue a stunning darting week.
Earlier, he had reached the final by producing an average of 109.85 to beat Archie Self, and in the previous rounds he defeated Leo Kuchmetzki, Maidar Telmen, Kendji Steinbach, James Morris and Sophie Mckinlay.
