The Junior Darts Corporation will take its premium events in 2019 to the overseas territory of Gibraltar.
The JDC’S three major competitions of the World Cup, European Open and the finals of the Junior World Darts Championship, will be held over 3 days in a purpose built facility for dart players ahead of the PDC’S Gibraltar Darts Trophy.
JDC Chairman Steve Brown, visited the territory to meet government officials with the late Tommy Cox in 2018, to discuss a working relationship with the ministry and the Gibraltar Darts Association around junior darts, academies, education and competition. A hugely ambitious Alex Nunez of JDC Gibraltar backed by the will of the sports minister, has secured the championships for 2019.
Alex Nunez commented - “ the Gibraltar Darts Association is delighted that the JDC are coming over to Gibraltar this year. This is a great opportunity for us to promote the game locally and we feel this is perfect timing for our local youth national team, as our team is in its best moment. We would like to thank the Government of Gibraltar for their on going support and developing opportunities for the game locally”
Steve Brown commented - “ we are delighted to be able to announce that our major events will be held in Gibraltar in 2019. The passion and interest in sport in Gibraltar is infectious. We are extremely excited about this announcement and I have seen first hand the facilities this territory has to offer. It will prove to be a momentous week of darts as we play out our events in the same week as the Gibraltar Darts Trophy”.
The 3 days of competition will be played out from the 24th - 26th of September 2019. The European event will remain an open event to any under 18 player and the World Final will conclude at the Alexandra Palace London in December 2019. Further details will be released in the coming weeks on the JDC and Gibraltar Darts Association websites.
