In-form Rebecca Allen wins back-to-back Girls Series events

REBECCA Allen capped a hugely impressive weekend by winning back-to-back Girls Series events as she claimed Event 6 on Sunday to go with her Event 5 win the day before.

The 16-year-old from Carlow in Ireland moved six points clear of Paige Pauling – who was unable to play in Coventry this weekend – at the top of the rankings with four events to go.

Allen, who has now won half of all the Girls Series events this year, beat Lexi-Jayne Rooksby 4-1 in the final while averaging 72.50.

Rooksby held throw in the opening leg of the final, before Allen held and then broke for a 2-1 lead. A second hold put her one win away from the title, which she sealed with a 15-dart leg against the throw, hitting 140 to leave 58, which she hit to make it back-to-back event wins.

Allen, who also leads the way in the girls’ Junior Power League, had beaten Taylor Field 3-0 in the semi-finals and Ruby Grey by the same scoreline in the quarters, after a 3-1 win over Mia Stansfield in the last 16.

She had earlier won her round-robin group, beating Rooksby, Field, Lola Wheeler and Brooke Warren. A special mention should go to Lucy Shepherd, who beat Allen 2-1 in the group stage, meaning she was the only player to beat her over the course of both events, clinching the way with a 66 checkout as Allen waited on the same score.

Rooksby had beaten Lacey Powell, Caprice Hingston and Macy Gibbons in the knockout rounds to reach her first final of this year’s Girls Series.

Another first was achieved by Field, who reached her first semi-final after defeating Harley Glover and Natalie Baxter.

The next rounds of the Girls Series take place on May 17-18, with the final two rounds on June 14-15.
